At lunch I read The Catcher In the Rye. Seemed like a good time to read it because all I've been told is wrong. Holden Caulifield, I feel you, buddy. But you didn't live these days. Nazi Germany was defeated when you roamed the cold NY streets. You didn't live in Germany then, not ever. So you don't even get now. How could you?
Then I went across the street to the library to find a book on how the hell Hitler ever got to power in enlightened Germany. Because it's happening again. And this old dude...he was a white guy with one of those peeling golf tans. He started talking to me about the Lusitania. I thought: I freaking know what that is, old man, because I've read a lot about WWI. I know why. In fact, I recently read the Erik Larson book on it. I know Churchill was a jerk and a failure in WWI. He got better in WWII.
So I care some about WWI, and I know it led to Hitler--in a way. But that's not what I was there for. I didn't want to talk to him.. I kind of blame him for what we have with Cheeto/Hitler. Normally Nazi comparisons aren't fair. Here they were. I wanted some more reminders of how Hitler consolidated power. Since I'm a lawyer, maybe I can help stop it this time. I don't know, but I need to try. So that's why I was there.
We have a stupid, angry populace, who doesn't know who is screwing them. Hint: you've gone to his rallies. He rails on the press, along with that Milo guy, and some dude shot up and killed a bunch of journalists yesterday. For no reason.
These days in Merica, home of the free (for now) and home of the brave (not really).
