Bad.  Ass.

#poetry "Writer's Block"

Writer's block doesn't mean
You can't write
Anything
At all

It means
The words aren't singing
Or flowing
Or opening doors in your mind
To another place
To your new universe

Truth is elusive
Yet it is always sought
When I write

But

When its murky
And frustrating
And disheartening
And I feel like I will never glimpse it again

Then I call it
Writer's block

It will go away
It
Always does
Though it
Never feels that way

#micropoetry "Context"

European sounds
Like
A bad word
When
Followed by
Car repairs.

Linguists are
Correct
Language is defined
By context

#poetry "Old paperback"

Old paperback
Sat
On my seat's
Black leather
Waiting to be read

You have spoken (and speaks if read)
But
Been silent

Until
I started reading you
Your words
Are vibrant

Next time
I won't leave you
On the seat so long

#poetry "43,000 years ago"

43,000 years ago
The first murder
Took place

In this second
One human
Killed
Another

We
Evolved
To
The
Same place
We were
43,000 years ago

#poetry "Apples" #micropoetry

Society is like
A partially rotten
Apple

Sweet in parts
But
Still rotten

#WBYeats or something similar

#poetry "Form Over Substance"

Form
Over
Substance

It occurs
When
We become
Fixated on
Appearances or
Procedures

Meaning is
What matters
Not the
Form
Something
Takes or
The way
It
Is
Done

How Legal Blogging Has Changed Over the Decade

How Legal Blogging Has Changed Over the Decade.  Interesting post.  Blogging is thriving.  I blog everyday (obviously), and it is very competitive.  My blog receives several hundred hits a day, but I do a lot of things.  I talk about the law, write poems, post drawings, write stories and talk about current events.  It is more about my personality than anything else.  It "humanizes" me for good or for bad (mainly for good, I hope).

#poetry "In Bulk"

"Bulk shit"
Because
Bullshit
Doesn't always
Cover it.

Sometimes it is
Too deep
Too dark
Too dank
For one person
One being.

It is a
Collective
Mind meld
Of the
Unthinking.

#Poetry "Detritus"

Swimming against
An old current
That isn't missed

Then swimming
An old path
Upstream

It clogged
And didn't
Move

Done with
Stasis
Life
Is
Movement

The atrophy of
The past
Is
Detritus

It needs to be
Swept
Away

Sand is
Blown
To
Another place

Escaping the
Detritus
And
Its
Vacuum of
Nothingness

The grain settled
Elsewhere

The same
Grain of sand
On a different
Beach
With
More
Sun

#micropoetry "Inorganic"

Light headed due to
The lack of
Something artificial

The inorganic
Affects the organic
Until
It can be
Obtained
Again

#Mondayblogs #micropoetry "Sinking Ship"

A sinking ship
Eventually
Sinks

It doesn't need
Help
But
Desperation is its
Own
Vortex

It distorts
And
Bewitches
In
The blackhole

Until
All its
Matter
Is crushed

#micropoetry "Escape"

People leaving
To escape
But their minds
Remain

And you cannot
Escape
Yourself
You remain

No matter
Where
You
Go

When you
Escape
You escape
To
The same place

#VoteYes...for love

When all people could get married in North Carolina, it made everyone's marriage more meaningful.  I know I felt great in May when I married Jillian because I married for love, and I felt solidarity with the same sex couples who married.  Marriage is (or it should be) about love.  How can anyone be against love?

I hope Ireland votes yes to marriage equality.

#SocialSecurity disability is not an easy road #SSA

Pursuing a Social Security disability case is not easy.  Far from it.  It takes a few years.  SSA regularly loses things or "misassociates" them as they call it (that is a true lawyer's word).  Dealing with SSA "doctors" is quite difficult as well.  Then claimants have to deal with an ignorant and unsympathetic population that only hears what detached and uncaring politicians living charmed lives say about SSD cases.  SSD hearings are not fun either; they are short, and judges don't want to hear much.  The whole ordeal often feels arbitrary, and it is, although judges are generally fair and thorough.

If claimants do prevail (only 40% of all claims actually do), then the disability payments are never more than a few thousand a month.  Most of my clients get between $743-$1,500.  Not exactly the "lottery" that the right win media refers to with some regularity.

Car alarm #micropoetry

My car alarm goes off too much.  Today as I was leaving Starbucks a woman in a Lexus pulled up beside my car.  She got out.  My car alarm went off and scared the hell out of her.  Finally my alarm went off at the right time.

#WednesdayWisdom

It is hard to dispense wisdom, but I will try.  This morning I was about to meet with another lawyer, when I thought of the following:

Warm light streams through the window after traveling millions of miles to arrive here.  Then it bounces off or is absorbed by someone or something.  I am less significant than that light.  Light from stars can last forever while my time lasts a mere fraction of a second--if that--in cosmic time.

We are but temporary tenants on this world, which is younger than most of the stars.  The stars will be there after me and and after the Earth.

"Whispering Promise Of You"

My whole life I've been in search of the silently sweet whispering promise of you
Then I heard you when I saw you
And you and I became us

Words are poor vessels to carry me to the place
Where the meaning of you and your love can be glimpsed
But never comprehended in full

Saw this in ABA Litigation news #lawschool #lawyers

Sounds like my recent #EliteDaily article.

#Itsnotgoingwell when you don't recognize the #Pantheon

But maybe a lot of people don't.

#MondayMotivation

I see lots of people who suffer.  The vast majority of them are dealing with things anyone who is reading (or writing ) the blog cannot begin to comprehend.  Understandably I have a hard time listening to privileged people complaining about how hard their lives are because of people they don't know and will never meet.  For example, people who are members of country clubs shouldn't complain about people "gaming the system" through taking government benefits.  Last I checked many of my fellow country club members are really the ones gaming the system.  So my #MondayMotivation is: don't complain when you have no reason to complain.  It is that simple.
