Marriage Equality about to happen in North Carolina

It is coming soon.  Soon NC will be on the right side of history.  Of course people may have to wait till Monday for marriage licenses.

  1. Soon, sons will legally able to marry their mothers. Dads will be able to marry their sons. With what's going on now, why not? When all the boundaries are fine, chaos and craziness will be the world we live in.

  2. People do what they want to do. They have no moral compass. Its over guys. The progressives have won

  3. You two are bigots. God made gay people in his image too. Love is moral.

  4. Michael even you have to be concerned that states rights are being trampled! The Feds are legislating from the bench and it is downright scary. I agree that no one should be discriminated against but marriage is between a man and a woman. Why can't the same sexes be called a civil union. It wouldn't change their legal rights or benefits?

  5. The 10th amendment is inapplicable here. Amendment One is hardly the will of the people as it was passed in a special election in May in 2012 with a small percentage of the people. Judges through out the country are interpreting the law as it should be within the confines of federal and state law. Individual freedom trumps states rights. It is why we had the Civil War.

  6. I can assure you that being opposed to the changing of the definition of marriage from being a union between one man and one woman. The accepted definition for nearly 3000 years does not make one a bigot. It does not mean that you hate homosexuals. It does not mean that you desire for them to have fewer rights than others.

As for Amendment 1 I did not vote for it. It had a provision that disallowed civil unions. I guess my point is that, as usual, there are shades of gray in the discussion.

  7. Arguing based on the age of something is a classic logical flaw. Age doesn't make something just or true. Marriage used to be about property rights and started to evolve to incorporate love in the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance.

  8. The civil war was not fought for individual freedoms. That's a lazy argument. If you think marriage should be redefined then why not get Congress to pass an amendment. Because a majority of people in this country don't agree with you and it has nothing to do with hindering people's freedoms.

  9. Ah...slavery? I suppose you don't hold Shelby Foote and Gary Gallagher in high regard. There were other factors, but all were symptoms of the root cause: slavery. And a Constitutional amendment is not necessary. Marriage is a fundamental right under the 4th and 14th amendments. The courts interpreted marriage more expansively. That's why we have a judicial branch. Surely you know that. Are you a lawyer?

  10. As one who is supportive of gay marriage, how would you address the slippery slope argument? Since it's no longer one man/one woman, on what grounds would/should ANY parameters exist?

  11. What parameters need to be set? Law is allowing people of the same gender to marry. Don't make that hackneyed slippery slope argument. It is weak because it skirts the issue.

  12. Are you ok with me marrying my dog? It's 'family' to me... and I love it dearly. I want to leave my money to care for it when I'm gone. Or how about having a couple of wives? Or a couple of wives and husbands? If we move beyond one man/one woman, then why is "gender" the only thing in play? Who are you to say my happiness is any of your business? Are those marriages harming you?

  13. I was wondering when those dumb ass arguments would be made. First, people are not dogs. Second, of course inbreeding shouldn't be allowed. Your analogies don't fit at all. Two adults of consenting age who aren't related or married already to someone else should be able to marry.

  14. Inbreeding? Are you insinuating marriage is meant for procreation? How do two gay dudes pull that off? If I love my gay cousin (or female cousin), if I want to wear a condom, who are you to rebuke my equal right to love and happiness?
If love of my pet is my life, why/how should you logically be able to reject that? Is it harming you? Does it sully the "sanctity of marriage?" Does it discriminate based on race, gender, etc? Besides the "it's dumb and you're a moron" argument, ya got anything?

  15. Jokes aside, do you have a problem if I want to marry a few women? Based on what?
