Today marks Medicare's and Medicaid's 49th anniversary
On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon Johnson signed both Medicare and Medicaid into law. Medicare has provided medical coverage to millions of seniors. Medicaid has provided coverage to millions of vulnerable Americans; more specifically, low-income parents, children and those with disabilities. They are two of the best programs government ever conceived, and we would be in horrible shape without these programs. These programs show how government can be a force of good in this country.
