Sexton: Castle Doctrine not just for law-abiding citizens - Winston-Salem Journal: Scott Sexton
Sexton: Castle Doctrine not just for law-abiding citizens - Winston-Salem Journal: Scott Sexton. The law stinks here. I don't blame Mike Grace for using this defense as he is an excellent defense lawyer. Ultimately the lawyer's role is to advocate for his client within the bounds of ethics and the law. Judge Banks-Payne made the correct ruling. She's an excellent judge. The fault lies in the law, which allows killing such as this if you are "defending your home" with a gun--whatever that means. How many shootings will it take before the gun laws are reformed? How many more Columbines, Auroras, Newtowns, Virginia Techs and UCSDs will it take?
