Judge jails in-house lawyer who complained in email about being selected for jury service

Judge jails in-house lawyer who complained in email about being selected for jury service.  I don't blame this lawyer for feeling this way.  Her actions, however, were not appropriate because 1) she engaged in ex parte communications with a judge, and 2) she said she would punish the plaintiff.  Both of these actions/statements are antithetical to the belief in the jury system, which is a belief lawyers are supposed to hold dear.

I do agree many trials are a waste of time, but trials are necessary.  They are reserved for times when cases cannot be resolved.  They are inconvenient, but so is justice sometimes.  We still want justice though, although justice doesn't always happen in trials.
