Too many prisons, not enough schools
This point was rammed home the other day on NPR where they ran a segment on prisons. In particular, prisons are big business and major employers. About 11,000 is spent per capita per student in the United States. 80,000 is spent per capita per prisoner. The main reasons for this: racism and overcrimilzation of drugs.
