In 'revolutionary' ruling, NLRB says football players are employees of Northwestern, can unionize. This is great news. Players should be able to unionize. They certainly work for their respective universities. The work they provide is not adequately compensated because there is no guarantee a college education will make them money. Effectively they are not paid wages commensurate with the value of the services they provide. It is fundamentally inequitable. Unions help combat inequality in the workplace. Otherwise management would run over the workers--and it does where unions don't exist or are weaker.
